With hot and humid weather expected this weekend, law enforcement is reminding residents to stay safe as the Fourth of July holiday approaches.
“The Austin Police Department tends to see an uptick in heat-related calls at this time of the year,” said Austin Police Chief David McKichan.
According to the National Weather Service, the high on Saturday and Sunday in Mower County is forecasted to be 91. Humidity is expected to be in the 50 percent range, while the heat index is projected to be as high as 97 on Saturday.
McKichan advises that people stay hydrated and encourages residents to check on elderly neighbors and family members to make sure they have adequate air conditioning.
