For high school students looking to have something to do this summer, Riverland Community College may be the place to be.
Riverland is hosting its yearly STEM Comes Alive Boot Camp from June 17-21 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fun enrichment activities and networking starts in the morning and in the afternoon.
This year’s boot camp focuses on the theme “Food is Us,” and is a free, fun and fast-moving boot camp that makes science, technology, engineering and math come alive for students entering high school. Students will meet in the West Building of Riverland’s Austin campus.
There, participants will learn about the importance of food, how food fuels the body, food safety, interrelationships among food, exercise, health and nutrition, food prep, food production from the farm to table, the impact of weather and the environment on food production, principles of nutrition and receive lectures from guest speakers while conducting STEM-based activities in community and laboratory settings.
Applications for the boot camp are due June 5, and space is limited. Apply at www.riverland.edu/stemcamp.
