For the second consecutive day, Austin Utilities has issued a peak alert, urging citizens to decrease power usage until 8 p.m. tonight.

Peak alerts are issued when the demand becomes too much and is usually brought on by extreme weather, including heat and humidity.

Today’s temperatures are expected to peak in the 90s with heat indices ranging from 90 to 115 degrees according to the National Weather Service.
