Deer Creek Speedway is set for a big night of racing as it will host the Gopher 50 this Saturday.
The Speedway, which is located in Spring Valley, will host the World of Outlaw Late Model Series, with the winner taking $10,000 and the USRA Modifieds will hold a race with the winner taking home $5,000,
The night will bring racers from all around the country, indulging familiar names like Boom Briggs, Darrell Lanigan, who has won the event multiple times, Chase Junghans and Ricky Weiss.
“We have a strong field of racers,” said Cole Queensland, co-owner of Deer Creek. “For a single day event, it’s one of our larger nights. You mark it on your calendar every year to see it. It’s a crowd favorite because late models don’t come to the area very often and they put on a heck of a show. They come from all across the country. You’ll see a wide variety of people and talent on hand.”
This is the 40th annual Gopher 50 and the race has always been linked with the Blooming Prairie Lions Club. It has been held in Deer Creek for the past 14 years and some of the proceeds still go to the BP Lions Club.
“It’s been a awesome event for both of us,” Queensland said. “We will also have a strong field of local racers like Dustin Sorensen, Jason Cummins and Brandon Davis in action.
The hot laps will begin at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, with racing to follow.
