For the fourth consecutive season the Austin Bruins will begin their regular season at the NAHL Showcase and on Monday the league announced each team’s schedule with the Bruins taking on four out-of-division teams in four days. The Bruins opponents for this year’s Showcase are Jamestown, Janesville, New Mexico, and Kenai River.
Austin’s first regular-season opponent of the 2019-20 season will be an afternoon showdown against the Jamestown Rebels at 1:30 p.m. Sept. 18. Jamestown finished second in the East Division in 2018-19 and this will be the first regular-season matchup between these two teams in their history.
The second competition of the showcase comes on Thursday night with a prime time game battle against the Janesville Jets. The Bruins and the Jets played an exhibition game in 2018-19 but haven’t seen each other during the regular season since 2017-18 where the Bruins went 1-1-1-1 against Janesville.
Austin will take on one of the league’s newest teams on Sept. 20, when they take on the New Mexico Ice Wolves. Not only is this the first-ever meeting between the two clubs, but it’s also the first time the Bruins will compete against former assistant coach Keenan Kelly who is now a member of the Ice Wolves coaching staff.
Rounding out the four games in four days is the battle of the bears when the Bruins take to the ice against the Kenai River Brown Bears.
