Susan Marie Jordan, 83, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 24, 2019, surrounded by her loving family at Mayo Clinic Hospital, St. Marys Campus-Rochester.
Susan was born May 24, 1936, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the daughter of Juel and Bernice (Bjaastad) Nelson. She graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1954 and from Fairview Hospital School of Nursing in 1957. On Oct. 19, 1957, Susan married Myron (Mike) Jordan in Albert Lea, Minnesota.
Sue was a registered nurse at St. Mark’s Lutheran Home, director of the Hormel Historic Home and a co-owner of the Carriage House Gifts and Collectables in Austin. She was an active member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, where she volunteered with the Visual Arts Team, Altar Guild and Shepherding Committee.
Sue enjoyed participating in several organizations, including Sons of Norway, Collector’s Club, Floral Club and PEO. Sue volunteered with the hospital auxiliary as well as numerous other organizations. Sue had several passions in life, including family and friends, gardening, decorating, entertaining, collecting antiques, music, art, and traveling, which were shared with Mike.
Sue will be remembered for her remarkable strength, compassionate soul and sense of humor. Above all, she had an unwavering faith with a love and enthusiastic spirit for life.
Sue was a friend to anyone she met and those that knew her were blessed by her warm acceptance and genuine curiosity about them.
In addition to her devoted husband, Mike, Sue is survived by daughters, Catherine Jordan of Edina, Minnesota, Karen (Joel) Christopherson of Plymouth, Minnesota, and Carol (Paul) Ousman of Excelsior, Minnesota; four grandchildren, Katie, Kelsey and John Christopherson (fiancé Sarah Welter) and John Ousman; and sister-in-law, Ruth (Jim) Lair. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, Charles.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 30, 2019, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 29, 2019, at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary and will continue for one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church. Interment will be at Graceland Cemetery in Albert Lea. Memorials may be made to the Hormel Institute for cancer research or memorial of choice.
