Get to know: Austin’s Rachel Christenson

Rachel Christenson is a senior tennis player for the Packers, who will compete in the Big Nine meet this weekend.
Q: What sports do you compete in?
A: I compete in tennis and I used to participate in track!
Q: How did you originally get into sports?
A: I’ve been playing sports since I was young. I used to play softball and basketball but began playing tennis in the seventh grade.
Q: What’s your favorite sports memory?
A: My favorite sports memory is probably going to state for basketball and supporting the boys!
Q: What have you learned from sports?
A: I’ve learned a lot from sports but the most important is the ability to work with others, whom you may not get along with, toward a common goal.
Q: What is the hardest part about sports?
A: The hardest part of sports is not getting in your own head about how the match is going.
Q: How do you keep your focus when competing?
A: To keep my focus I like to take a minute between games to just take a breathe and remind myself to play the best I can.
Q: Who is your biggest sports role model and why?
A: My biggest role model is probably Serena Williams. She showed me that I can still pursue my dreams while having a family and personal life.
Q: What is your favorite movie or TV show?
A: “Brooklyn Nine-Nine!!” It’s a really funny show about cops in Brooklyn. It always makes me laugh, I highly recommend it!
Q: If you could have a conversation with anyone in history, who would it be?
A: I would love to have a conversation with Marie Curie (a physicist and chemist who won the Nobel Prize)! I think it would be cool to know more about the exact work she did.
Q: What is your dream job?
A: My dream job is probably something where I can work to help protect the environment and other people.
Q: What is your favorite food?
A: My favorite food is either spinach and artichoke dip or chicken nuggets.
Q: What is your favorite song?
A: My favorite song is any song off of the album “Divers” by Joanna Newsom! I love her use of different instruments.
Q: What are your plans after high school?
A: After high school I plan to attend a 4 year college and pursue a degree in some form of science.
Q: If you could have one super power, what would it be?
A: If I could have a superpower, I would want the power of shape shifting! It would be awesome to be able to change my appearance at will.
