KASSON — The Austin football team was never able to find its footing, losing to Kasson-Mantorville, 36-13 Friday night.

The KoMets (2-1 overall) used their triple rushing attack to grind out 297 yards. Their defense forced four turnovers and held the Packers to less than 50 yards on the ground.

“We had to execute and score points, because we had limited possessions,” Austin head coach Ed Schmitt said. “We had some timely penalties and missed assignments on both sides of the ball, but all of the credit goes to them and their scheme. We knew what they were doing and we couldn’t stop them.”

After two straight sharp outings to start the season, the Packers (2-1 overall) struggled from the start on Friday.

“I told them this is where we find out what kind of team we are,” Schmitt said.

Austin trailed 23-0 before it got on the board on a 38-yard TD pass from Eli Johnson to Collin Dahlback.

Austin had just one first down and two turnovers in the first half.
