As I was out walking last week, the day after the heavy rains, I noticed that some yard irrigation systems were already being operated. I could tell from wet areas of some driveways and streets.

I often see that irrigation nozzles are directed to include large areas of asphalt and concrete. While wells in some cities are drying up or are polluted, we have been blessed with ample and safe water supplies in Austin.

I would encourage all home owners and installers/servicers of irrigation systems to monitor them carefully, adjust them as needed, and turn them off when ample rain has come from the heavens. Besides saving money, we can help assure an adequate and safe supply of water for our children and grandchildren.
