Lowell Irving Trom, 90, of Blooming Prairie, Minnesota, passed away Monday, Oct. 14, 2019, at Mayo Clinic Hospital, Saint Marys Campus-Rochester.
Lowell was born April 10, 1929, on the family farm in Dodge County, Minnesota, to Elmer and Marie (Wilson) Trom. Lowell lived his entire life on the family farm that he loved. He graduated from Blooming Prairie High School in 1946. A lifelong crop farmer, Lowell also raised livestock in the early years. On Oct. 22, 1953, he married Evelyn Gross at First Lutheran Church in Blooming Prairie. Together, the couple raised six children. Lowell’s life centered around faith, family and farming. In fact, Lowell’s passion for farming ran so deep this year marks the first missed harvest for him in over 80 years. With over 40 years of public service, Lowell served as a Region 10 Board member, Dodge County Commissioner, and Westfield Township Supervisor, among other public offices. As a public servant, he recognized the importance of service to others. Lowell spearheaded several instrumental improvements in Dodge County, including construction of the Fairview Care Center, the Dodge County Highway Department building and Westfield Town Hall. He was a member of Farmers Union and First Lutheran Church in Blooming Prairie.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Trom of Blooming Prairie; children, Randy (Karen) Trom of Kaukauna, Wisconsin, Shelley (David) Williamson of Woodbury, Minnesota, Bradley Trom of Blooming Prairie, Sonja (Douglas) Eayrs of Maple Grove, Minnesota, Peggy Trom of Naples, Florida, and James (Deanne) Trom of Austin, Minnesota; eight grandchildren, Amanda Trom of Chicago, Illinois, Rachel (Ryan) O’Leary of Green Bay, Wisconsin, Michael (Shubhang Dave) Williamson of Denver, Colorado, Andrew Williamson of Seattle, Washington, Rebekah (Paul) Cavanagh of Louisville, Colorado, Kathleen Eayrs of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Justin Trom of Austin and Maggie Trom of Minneapolis; two great-grandchildren, Evelyn and Noelle; brother, Kenneth (Gloria) Trom of Austin; sister, Darlene Schmidt of Owatonna, Minnesota; and sisters-in-law, Mary Trom of Owatonna and Tonia Trom of Rochester, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Marie Trom; sisters, Bernice (Art) Thompson and Verna (Pat) Mattson; brothers, Ralph (Joyce) Trom, Richard (June) Trom, Charles (Nola) Trom, Eugene Trom and Lloyd “Bud” Trom; and brother-in-law, Darrell Schmidt.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 20, 2019, at First Lutheran Church in Blooming Prairie with Pastor Heidi Heimgartner officiating. Visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19, 2019, at Worlein Blooming Prairie Funeral Home in Blooming Prairie and will continue for one hour prior to the service on Sunday at the church. Interment will be in First Lutheran Cemetery in Blooming Prairie.
