After much anticipation, the final store in the old Hy-Vee development will officially open its doors on Thursday.
Marshalls, the 22,500 square-feet anchor store in the complex owned by Verona, Wisconsin-based firm Slaby and Associates, will be holding a grand opening celebration that will include extended business hours from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Thursday.
As the last of the five new retail stores to open in the former Hy-Vee, Marshalls’ opening marks the culmination of several years of planning between Slaby and Associates and the City of Austin.
“The city has been a good partner in this development,” said Slaby and Associates Vice President Victor Baeten.
“Our newest store in Austin will offer an ever-changing selection of high-quality, on-trend, and brand-name merchandise at the amazing prices that Marshalls is known for,” Marshalls President Tim Miner said in a press release. “Our buyers create a broad and exciting mix that offers exceptional values for the entire family, and we’re excited to bring this experience to a new neighborhood. With thousands of new items delivered to our stores every day, we know our shoppers will find values that are surprising and unexpected every time they shop.”
“When we’re looking to open new stores, we take several things into consideration, such as the right mix of demographics, a thriving retail scene, families, and areas where shoppers are fashion conscious, but also value conscious,” Marshalls marketing specialist Katie Babb told the Herald. “We expect to be very successful in Austin.”
The new store brought approximately 60 full and part-time jobs to Austin.
Babb said that Thursday’s grand opening celebration would include a 7:30 a.m. ribbon-cutting ceremony and surprise giveaways for customers. Marshalls will also be donating $10,000 to Apple Lane Community Child Care during the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Babb also said Austin Marshalls’ shoppers “will find a surprising selection of high-quality, on-trend, brand name and designer merchandise in ladies, men, juniors, kids, shoes, accessories, home, pet, beauty and more.”
“We’re excited to offer that ever changing variety of high-quality merchandise at the reasonable prices we’re known for,” she said.
