The Austin girls hockey team lost its second straight game to start the season when it fell to Mankato East by a score of 6-4 in Mankato Tuesday.
The Packers (0-2 overall, 0-2 Big Nine) trailed 4-1 after the first period, but they were able to get within 4-3 when Isikiyah Hemann and freshman A.J. Barrera each scored in the second period.
Barrera’s goal was her first goal of her varsity career.
“The team really came out hard after first and quickly got it to a one goal game,” Austin head coach Troy Holtz said. “We have a really young team that is growing with every game.”
Jordyn McCormack and Samantha Krueger each had one goal in the loss and Kyia Radford Garcia had 30 saves.
