Gloria Frieda Rieken, 19

Gloria Frieda Rieken, 19, of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and formerly of Hayfield, Minnesota, passed away on or about Nov. 9, 1970, of unknown causes. Her body was discovered in rural Mille Lacs County and remained unidentified until Feb. 9, 2019.
Gloria was born to Peter and Frederika (Tebben) Rieken on Nov. 21, 1951. Gloria grew up with her parents and siblings on the family farm near Hayfield. She was a good student and had a great interest and talent for art. She was a 1969 graduate of Hayfield High School and a student at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, at the time of her death.
Being able to study at the U of M was a dream come true for her. She loved the popular music of the 60s with a particular fondness for Bob Dylan.
Gloria was married to Larry Smith of Watertown, South Dakota, on July 3, 1970. The marriage was annulled after her disappearance.
Gloria is survived by her mother, Frederika; brothers and sisters, Edward Rieken, Kingston Springs, Tennessee, Delores Jones, Dexter, Minnesota, Ilene (Tom) Grosam, Brownsdale, Minnesota, Bradley (Sally Johnson) Rieken, Austin, Minnesota, and Richard (Tanya) Rieken, Sargeant, Minnesota; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Peter, who died Jan. 19, 2019, shortly before her body was identified.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 8, 2019, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 104 First St. SE in Hayfield, with the Rev. Paul Hauschild officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Hayfield. Visitation will be held for a half-hour before the service on Friday at the church. Czaplewski Family Funeral Home, 501 Second St. NW in Hayfield, is assisting with arrangements.
