John D. Garvey, 76, formerly of Austin, Minnesota, died Friday, Nov. 15, 2019, at his home in Eden Prairie, Minnesota.
John was born Nov. 29, 1942, in Austin to Lambert and Lorretta Garvey. He grew up in Austin. John graduated from Pacelli High School in 1960 and St. Mary’s College in Winona, Minnesota, in 1964. He subsequently obtained his masters of business administration from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul.
In 1966, John was united in marriage to Barbara Gerber at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Adams, Minnesota. He worked for IBM and retired after 42 years.
John enjoyed playing tennis and poker and was an avid bridge player and sports fan.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Garvey, Eden Prairie; two daughters, Rachel Garvey Kelly, Natick, Massachusetts, and Allison Garvey, Minneapolis, Minnesota; two grandsons, Kenan and Jack; a sister, Sheila (George) Tichy, Hillsborough, California; ten nieces; and five nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lambert and Lorretta Garvey; sister, Kay Garvey Dudycha; and brother-in-law, Richard Gerber.
A prayer service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2019, at Mayer Funeral Home with Father Jim Steffes officiating. Friends may call for one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Condolences may be left online at www.mayerfh.com.
