Olgar Lon Himle, 90

Olgar L. Himle, 90, of rural Austin, Minnesota, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2019, surrounded by his family at home in Udolpho Township, Minnesota.
Olgar Lon was born April 19, 1929, to Erick and Bertha (Brekke) Himle near Rock Dell, Minnesota. He was a graduate of Hayfield High School. On July 27, 1979, Olgar was united in marriage to Judy Beckman at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church in Waltham, Minnesota. Olgar farmed in Udolpho Township and worked for Hormel in dry sausage for 38 years. He was a strong labor advocate and member of the P9 Union and United Support Group. He remained P9 proud!
In 1988, he was proud to be awarded the Mower County Conservation Farmer of the Year. Olgar enjoyed going to auctions and garage sales, cutting trees, helping friends and neighbors move buildings and take down silos. He will be remembered for always being willing to help anyone in need. Olgar was a faithful member of St. Michael’s Lutheran Church, where he served as financial secretary and property custodian, and longtime member of Hayfield American Legion Post 330.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Erick and Bertha Himle; sisters, Ellen (Harvey) Fjerstad, Ethelyn (Bud) Hahn, Mildred (Fred) Alford, Hazel (Norman) Pearson, Jane (Jim) Lepeska, and June, who died at age 5; brothers, Earl (Gloria) Himle and Richard, who died at age 1; mother-in-law, Alice Schulz; sister-in-law, Joyce Spinter; and brothers-in-law, Jack Beckman, Harold Peterson and Tony Vann. Olgar is survived by his wife of 40 years, Judy; daughters, Julie Knotts of Austin and Jan Bliss of Rochester, Minnesota; grandsons, Randy Knotts of Rochester and Andrew Bliss of Albert Lea, Minnesota; brother, Lee (Carol) Himle of Spring Valley, Minnesota; brothers-in-law, Jerry (Lana) Beckman of Hayfield, Minnesota, and Kevin Spinler (Jo Fiebiger) of Blooming Prairie, Minnesota; sisters-in-law, Jille Peterson of Austin and Julie Beckman of St. Paul, Minnesota; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 11, 2019, at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church, 30450 570th Ave. in Waltham, with Pastor Dwight DoBell officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from noon to 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 10, 2019, at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary and will continue for one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church.
