Authorities are investigating a fire that destroyed an abandoned building on a property near Lyle Sunday evening.

At around 9:15 p.m. Sunday night, Lyle Fire Department responded to a report of fire in the 58000 block of 140th Street or about five miles east of Lyle.

According to the Mower County Sheriff’s Department, the owner of the property was alerted to a possible fire on his property and when he investigated, found the building involved.

The State Fire Marshall was called to the scene and investigated the cause of the fire Monday. Reports indicate that there was no electricity or gas hooked up to the house.

The owner of the property was in the process of converting the property to usable farmland and was making arrangements to allow the house to be used as a controlled burn for training purposes.
