It’s Christmas Time: It’s a weekend of holiday fun through a variety of events

The City of Austin is continuing to celebrate the holiday season with these upcoming weekend events.


Festival of the Nativities

Westminster Presbyterian Church will be hosting its third annual Festival of the Nativities from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 6, and Saturday, Dec. 7. Celebrate through sacred Christmas music, scripture, fellowship, and lighted displays of nativity sets. The event is free and includes a children’s craft area, a scavenger hunt for unique nativity scenes and holiday refreshments.

A Handmade Christmas

The Hormel Historic Home wants is hosting the seventh annual A Handmade Christmas from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 6, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7. This event features 37 top makers and artists, with hors d’oeuvres by The Peppered Cow and a cash bar (purchase ticket online for free wine).  A $10 weekend pass can be bought online or purchased (cash only) at the door.

Canadian Pacific Holiday Train

The Canadian Pacific Holiday Train will be making its biennial return to Austin at 5 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 6, behind the old Milwaukee Road building. Join stars Meghan Patrick, Tanika Charles and Kelly Prescott as they spread Christmas cheer during a live performance. Bring a donation for the local food shelf to help others enjoy the holidays.

A CommUNITY Christmas

The Northwestern Singer and Riverland College Choir will perform holiday favorites during their CommUNITY Christmas concert at 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 6, at the Historic Paramount Theatre. Tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for students.

MerryTuba Christmas

Austin’s annual Merry TubaChristmas concert returns for its 10th year at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7, at the Historic Paramount Theatre. This concert is an annual celebration of the holidays with tubas, euphoniums and sousaphones. All are welcome to enjoy this free event.

Holiday Craft Fair and Festival of Trees

11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at St. Mark’s Living.

St. Mark’s Living will host its annual Holiday Craft Fair and Festival of Tree from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7, in the chapel. Lunch will be available for $6 per person and will feature chili or wild rice soup, bread, crackers, cookies, coffee or lemonade. All proceeds go to Paint the Town Pink.

• Austin Masonic All-You-Can-Eat Pancake Feed, 9 a.m. to noon at the Austin Masonic Lodge. Austin High School’s National Honor Society members will serve as hosts as they work to raise money for the local charity of Pay-It-Forward. Tickets available at the door and only $5.
