Janet Kay Overby, 78, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 5, 2019 at the Cedars of Austin.
Janet was born Jan. 4, 1941, in Blooming Prairie, Minnesota, to Charles and Inez (Vaith) Vollmer. She graduated from Pacelli High School in 1959. Janet married Richard Overby on Jan. 28, 1961, at Queen of Angels Catholic Church. For the first few years of their marriage, they moved a lot with their jobs, but returned to Austin in 1967. Having worked in retail most of her life, Janet was employed with Sears, Younkers, Advertising Unlimited and JCPenney. In 1986, they moved again with their jobs, which took them to a variety of cities in Minnesota. They both retired in 2000 and returned back to Austin.
Janet was an avid walker and enjoyed working out. She loved being outside in the sun and enjoyed fishing. She was a loyal fan of the Twins and Timberwolves, whom she loved to watch or just listen to the games. She enjoyed anything on HGTV and loved decorating and re-doing houses.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Terry Vollmer; sisters-in-law, Delores Helle, Lolly Carpenter and Wanda Overby; and brothers-in-law, Earl Sullivan, Paul Overby, Charlie Overby and Orville Helle. Janet is survived by her husband, Richard Overby of Austin; two children, Kim (Larry) Kilgore of Rose Creek, Minnesota, and Kragg Overby of Austin; granddaughter, Kacey (Greg) Retterath of Rose Creek; three great-grandchildren, Joey, Jaxsen and Ellery; two sisters, Pat (Sherm) Kaus of Ham Lake, Minnesota, and Charlotte Gamm of Anoka, Minnesota; brother-in-law, Bud Overby of Austin; sisters-in-law, Marion Lingbeck of Austin and Jean Sullivan of Austin; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 14, 2019, at the Clasen-Jordan Mortuary Chapel with Father John Sullivan officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
