On Saturday at Austin’s Paramount Theatre, tuba and baritone players from around the region gathered to play Christmas music.
The event has been held in Austin for 10 years, while similar events have been going across the country since 1974, when it started in New York City’s Rockefeller Plaza.

Over the course of the concert, several individuals took the reigns as the conductor, including Becca Combs-Cawley of Stewartville. During each of the songs, the conductor would signal the audience to join in by singing along while the band played the second time through.
At the end of the final song of the concert, Ode to Joy, the close to 30 assembled musicians raised their instruments in the air to celebrate the completion of the concert. The group had met with each other Saturday morning for rehearsal, before putting on the concert.
