As part of its efforts to have its community spend time with the wider Austin community, Primrose Retirement Community will be hosting a New Year’s Eve Cotillion, or dance.
This will be the first such event the community has hosted, said Director of Sales Cindy Meany, who is one of the staff organizing the event.
“Our first of hopefully many to come,” she said.
Meany said events like these are a good way to connect seniors with other people.
This event also means the residents have other people to spend New Year’s Eve with them, she said.
“A lot of our residents aren’t able to get out so it’s our way of bringing the New Year here to celebrate,” Meany said.
There is a lot of excitement for the event at Primrose, she said.
“Our residents are very active. They love music and they love social events. They’re super excited for New Year’s Eve to roll around,” Meany said.
With the event having big band music, popular in the early to mid 1900s, organizers expect the residents to have a great time with music and dance they can relate to.
Meany hopes there will be a good turnout for the event. When people come to these events, there are some who end up coming back to volunteer or visit residents, she said.
The event, where hors d’oeuvres will be served, will run from 5:30-8 p.m.
People wishing to attend are asked to contact Meany at (507) 434-0600 and RSVP by Friday, Dec. 27.
