Vacant home destroyed in Sunday morning fire; Fire considered ‘suspicious’

The Minnesota State Fire Marshal is investigating a Sunday morning house fire that Austin Fire Chief Jim McCoy calls “suspicious.”

According to McCoy, Austin firefighters responded to fire at about 4:50 a.m. on Sunday at 4004 20th Ave. NW. Upon arrival, firefighters found that the house was fully involved; part of the roof was down when they arrived.

Members of the Brownsdale and Hollandale Fire Departments provided mutual aid. The Austin Police Department and Mower County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the scene.

McCoy said the house is a total loss with an estimated damage value of $50,000.

The fire is considered suspicious as the house was vacant and had no power, McCoy said.
