Bid is for $661,800 for Southgate and Neveln elementary schools
Southgate and Neveln Elementary Schools will be getting new roofs after the Austin School Board approved a bid from Interstate Roofing.
Southgate’s south side and Neveln’s west side will be the specific areas that need reroofing.
The bid for both roofs totaled $661,800.
The project will include new manufactured roofs, which will be covered in white, reflective pebbles.
The district originally budgeted $550,000 for the project, but problems have led to the higher bid price, Facilities Director Brian Beasley said.
“We cored the roof and found that all the insulation is wet,” he said.
Beasley added that due to the core sample, the district knows the insulation is saturated and needs to be replaced.
The current roofs will be removed down to the concrete decking and the new one will be put on.
With the new insulation being installed, which will be rated for more than is needed, the district will save money at the buildings on heating going forward, Beasley said.
The District has worked with Interstate Roofing in the past. The Board approved the bid unanimously.
With this action, the next step for the project will be to begin ordering materials and scheduling the work to begin sometime during the summer, Beasley said.
