Undergraduate students should apply now for SURE program
College students interested in research or health sciences careers are encouraged to apply online for The Hormel Institute’s Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) internship program.
The paid, 10-week internship provides students with hands on lab training working throughout the summer with some of the world’s most foremost cancer research experts.
“The SURE internship gives students training and experiences that really give them an edge when they enter their last years of undergraduate education,” said Gail Dennison, director of development and public relations. “It is our way of giving back to the community and helping shape future scientists, bioengineers, doctors, nurses and other medical-related careers with training they discover is valuable and appreciated.”
All application materials must be completed no later than March 1, 2020, to be considered for the SURE internship. Applicants are required to complete an on-line application form and submit a resume, college transcript, and two letters of recommendation.
The internship gives undergraduate students the opportunity to work in one of The Hormel Institute’s 21 cancer research sections. Interns work on research projects to expand their knowledge of basic research as well as learn about equipment and techniques generally unavailable in undergraduate academic programs.
The 2020 program will run from June 1 – Aug. 7.
Interns are selected based on their high level of academic achievement and plans to pursue careers in science or medically related fields. A priority is placed on applicants who are majoring in a science-related field and who will be entering their junior or senior year following the internship. Students who will be sophomores next fall and those with a medical or research related major are also encouraged to apply.
