Five area wrestlers advance to state semifinals

Five area wrestlers have advanced to the semifinals at the Minnesota Class A State Individual Meet in Excel Energy Center.

Westfield’s Colton Krell and Dylan Nirk and GMLOS’s Anthony Romero, Daniel Smith and Noah Sayles all won their first two matches to remain in title contention.

Krell pinned Cameron Sneed of GMLOS and he beat Josh Steffen 16-1 a 195-pounds and Nirk pinned Jude Olson and pinned Cian Buehler in his first two matches at 285.

Romero pinned Gavin Johnson in the first round and he beat Marshall Larson 8-4 in the quarterfinals, Smith beat Josiah Hendentsen 9-7 and he topped Austin Donnay 9-4 and Sayles pinned Michael Fitzpatrick and he beat Ashton Hanan 7-6.

Cohen Wiste of GMLOS lost to Cole Holien 5-2 in the first round at 113 pounds, James Jacobsen of GMLOS lost his first match to Zach Brown 16-2 and he was pinned by Broden Simon in the 120-pound consolation, Lucas Winfield of GMLOS was pinned by Landon Gode in his first match at 132 and he lost to Kade Lozinski 4-1 in consolation, Rece Voigt of GMLOS remains in placing contention after he beat Koby Nagel 16-2 in consolation after having lost to Payton Handevidt 5-3 at 145.
