Hayfield girls get past Kingsland

The No. 4 seeded Hayfield girls basketball team found a way to keep its season alive when it beat No. 5 Kingsland (18-10 overall) 47-43 in a Section 1A quarterfinal in Rochester Century Monday.

The Vikings (16-11 overall) took a two-point lead late in the game when eighth grader Kristen Watson, who scored 13 points, hit a a three-pointer.

“We just kept clawing and clawing,” Hayfield head coach Kasey Krekling said. “Kirsten hit a big shot for us and then we played good defense down the stretch.”

Rachel Pack scored 21 points for the Vikings, who will take on top-seeded Blooming Prairie in a Section 1A semifinal in Mayo Civic Center at 11 a.m. Saturday.
