•6-6:45 p.m., March 26 and April 2, at Riverside Arena.

Austin Park and Rec is offering this opportunity for beginners ages 3-10 years who wish to learn how to skate. Participants will fall down, so elbow pads and shin pads are recommended and helmets are required to be worn at all times. Both helmets and skates are available for rental at Riverside Arena.

A parent or guardian (of at least 16 years of age) may assist the participant(s) at no charge. Skates are available for them to rent as well for $1 and time. The participant registration fee is $20.

Packer Arena

There is a tournament this weekend, and then we’ll hold our last public skates of the season at 6:15-8:15 p.m., Feb. 28, and noon to 2 p.m., Feb. 29, at Packer Arena.

We’ll then be gearing up for dry-floor events and activities at this location. Watch for public ice availability to begin at Riverside in two weeks.

Sledding hill and outdoor rinks

Staff will continue to maintain them as conditions allow. Last year by this time the outdoor rinks were wrapped up due to rising temperatures.

Riverside Arena schedule

Today-Sunday: Tournament and rentals this weekend.

Feb. 28-29: Austin Bruins at home versus the Bismarck Bobcats. The puck drops at 7:05 p.m. both nights. The hockey action is always fast and exciting when the Austin Bruins are in town.

Summer recreation

The summer recreation brochure was sent to the printer today. They will be out in local schools in the near future. Watch for registration to begin for Austin Parks and Rec and Jay C. Hormel Nature Center activities on April 1.
