1 killed, 3 injured in Dodge County vehicle accident

An Owatonna man was killed and three individuals were taken to the hospital after a Sunday vehicle accident in Dodge County.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol crash report, a 2014 Honda Accord was headed eastbound on County Road 16 at about 11:20 a.m. on Sunday in Mantorville Township.

At the same time, a 2013 Chevrolet Avalanche was heading north on Highway 57 when the two vehicles collided at the intersection of Highway 57 and County Road 16.

The Honda’s driver, Mark Douglas Johnson, 58, of Owatonna was killed in the accident.

The Chevrolet’s driver, Bradley Herman Schmidt, 54, and passengers, Mary Kay Schmidt, 58, and Danielle Kaye Schmidt, 20, all of Hayfield, were transported to Mayo Clinic Hospital-Rochester with non-life threatening injuries.

The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office and Kasson Police Department assisted the State Patrol at the scene.

The State Patrol report indicates the road conditions were wet at the time of the accident. Alcohol was determined to not be a factor in the crash.
