Harris Music Competition returns Saturday
Published 7:01 am Thursday, March 5, 2020
The annual Harris Music Competition will be held this Saturday at the Hormel Historic Home and Historic Paramount Theatre.
The competition was created in 2012 as a way to further music appreciation and education for area youth. It is named after MarySue Hormel Harris, who provides funds, via a trust, for the Hormel Historic Home to be able to offer music programs to the community.
Harris is the granddaughter of Ben F. Hormel, George Hormel’s youngest brother.
The competition is open to any non-professional young musician living or studying in the Minnesota counties of Freeborn, Mower and Steele or the Iowa counties of Mitchell and Worth.
The preliminary music competition runs from 8 a.m. to noon at the Hormel Historic Home. A concert and awards ceremony featuring top performers in both piano and melodic instrument categories will be held at 4 p.m. at the Paramount Theater.
Refreshments will be served following the concert and awards ceremony; all attendees are invited to stay.
