Cancellations: Austin Area Arts adjusts schedule in the face of COVID-19

The following are those events, businesses and organizations that have cancelled or postponed their events because of the coronavirus. If your event has been affected by COVID-19 let us help get the word out by emailing us at newsroom@austindailyherald.com
Austin Area Arts has canceled or postponed the following events:
• James Sewell Ballet on March 20 (postponed)
• ArtRocks Open Jam on March 27 and April 17 (canceled)
• “Ralph Breaks the Internet” on March 28 (canceled)
• Matchbox production of “The Magician’s Nephew” on April 3-5 (postponed)
• Dweeb Comedy Show on April 18 (postponed)
• Common Chords events on April 21 and April 23 (postponed)
In addition, the Paramount Theatre will be closed until March 27.
Austin Area Arts will maintain open hours at the ArtWorks Center (10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday-Friday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday) and will continue to hold the Kids Studio classes as the attendees are K-12 students and there is no recommendation to limit gatherings of that age group. Adult art classes and Open Studio times will also continue because there is room for social distancing practices.
Mower County Historical Society
The Mower County Historical Society office, museum and research library will be closed to the public until further notice out of an abundance of caution to help prevent the community spread of COVID-19.
As part of this temporary closure, all public events and presentations, school field trips, and MCHS committee meetings are suspended. In addition, MCHS requests that all volunteers call the MCHS office before coming to work on a project.
MCHS staff will be available by phone at 507-437-6082 and by email at director@mowercountyhistory.org.
Austin Utilities announces temporary business office closure
Austin Utilities (AU) has announced it will temporarily close its office to the public effective March 18 and will limit service calls to emergency only.
In addition, AU has voluntarily implemented a suspension on service disconnections for non-payment, effective immediately and will waive late payment fees.
AU said in a press release that they want to maintain a safe workplace and encourage practices protecting the health of employees and customers. They also want to ensure the continuity of our electric, natural gas and water services. Implementing this closure will limit direct interaction with the public and will help to minimize risk of exposure for employees and our community.
AU will still be conducting business. Customers can perform necessary business through its SmartHub app, website, phone, mail, and deposit boxes. When dropping payments into the deposit boxes, please include your name, account number, and phone number. Payments can also be made using our automated pay-by-phone service at 1- 844-262-2442.

Northwestern Singers cancel show
The Northwestern Singers show scheduled for April 4 and 5 at Riverland Theatre has been cancelled. No future date has been scheduled.
Mary Ellen Miller memorial service
Due to concerns about the coronavirus, the family of Mary Ellen Miller has postponed the memorial service for her that was scheduled for 4-7 p.m. on Friday, March 20, at the Hormel Historic Home. The new date will be determined at a later time.
Freeborn-Mower Co-op
Freeborn-Mower Cooperative Services (FMCS) is taking additional steps to protect the health of its employees and community.
The co-op’s office is now temporarily closed, helping to ensure employees remain healthy so they can continue to provide reliable electric service to you.
