As the state and nation battles one of the most challenging times of this generation, we want to let you know we are here for you.
No matter how long this health crisis continues, your newspaper will be there with you through the highs and lows to let you know how our community is impacted. Whether it is our health care system, local governments, the business community or people on an individual or family level, we seek to keep you informed of everything happening in this crisis.
Though that will undoubtedly mean some unpleasant news, there are also rays of sunshine amid the darkness that give us all hope moving forward. Whether its a family that is heeding a call for more medical face masks, a nurse volunteering to serve on the front lines of this pandemic, organizations rallying together to protect the community’s most vulnerable or local businesses that are finding ways to serve, we have already been reminded of the good that exists in this community and of the resiliency of our people.
Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz on Monday said COVID-19 presents an unprecedented challenge to the state.
“The state of Minnesota and our private partners are doing everything we can to protect Minnesotans, but we need your help,” he said. “Minnesotans, stay home and let’s make sure we keep our family, our friends, and our neighbors safe.”
He said he is grateful for the dedication of Minnesota’s press to deliver the most accurate information possible to the state and encouraged Minnesotans to fight COVID-19 using facts, not fear, by turning to local news organizations for up-to-date information.
This time can be scary and confusing, but we give you our pledge to help you through it.
The Austin area has faced hardship before — whether it be the loss of of businesses in the downtown Austin fire, natural disasters, devastating loss or community division — and we are confident that, together, we can rise above this challenge, too.
