Man charged with escaping custody

David Benjamin Vasey, 22, of Austin was charged with felony escape from custody on Friday in Mower County District Court.
According to the court complaint, Vasey was in custody on July 17 for violating probation on a felony fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct conviction. The court furloughed him to a treatment facility on the condition that he was to report back to the Mower County Jail upon being discharged or leaving the facility.
Mower County Correctional Services was notified that Vasey left the program on Aug. 3 without saying anything to the staff. He had not reported back to the Mower County Jail and officers were unable to locate him.
Vasey was also charged on Friday with felony violate domestic abuse no contact order – within 10 years of two or more convictions.
Vasey will appear in court again on April 28.
