Police investigating Monday evening fight

Police are currently investigating a Monday night incident that may have been responsible for sending one individual to the hospital.

According to Austin Police Chief David McKichan, officers were dispatched at about 8:35 p.m. on Monday on a report of a disturbance in the 500 block of East Oakland Avenue. One adult male from was located and found to be in possession of a sheathed knife and piece of broken glass. While admitting to being in a fight, he was otherwise uncooperative and no one else was located in the area.

Officers released the man and cleared the scene to respond to a possible burglary in the 400 block of First Street Southeast. There, officers located another adult male who was agitated and had a small puncture wound to the back. He claimed to have also been in a fight, but did not name the person the officers had just dealt with. The man was taken to Mayo Clinic Health System-Austin for treatment.

Both individuals were from Austin.

The case remains under investigation.
