Susan Marie Allen, 82, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away on Sunday, April 12, 2020, surrounded by her family at home.
Susan Marie was born Nov. 21, 1937, in Charlotte, North Carolina, to Leonard Joseph and Harriet (Dunlap) Mordaunt. She met the love of her life when she was 13 at a school dance for Our Lady of Good Counsel and Jesuit College Preparatory in Dallas, Texas. Susan was united in marriage to Jerry Daniel Allen on Feb. 23, 1957. Jerry worked for Hormel Foods, which gave them the opportunity to live in many states before settling down in Austin.
Susan was a homemaker and mother to her children: Joe, Jennifer and Stephanie. When they got older, she went to work as a receptionist at the Lommen Clinic in Austin. Susan enjoyed this job very much until the clinic closed. She looked forward to spending her winters with Jerry in Texas and spending time with family and old friends.
Susan loved spending time with her three children, five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. She never missed their sporting events, plays, concerts, or any other special events in their lives. She was their biggest cheerleader.
She was a devoted member of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Austin. She prayed the Rosary every day and spent much of her time kneeling to pray for her family and friends. Susan often joked that this is why she needed both her knees replaced! She enjoyed playing cards with family and taking drives with Jerry to visit restaurants, casinos, family and friends. Susan and Jerry enjoyed golfing together; the highlight of her career was having a hole-in-one before Jerry.
Susan was taken too soon from our family. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Jerry Allen of Austin; children, Joe Allen of California and Colorado, Jennifer (Brad) McNally of Austin and Stephanie (Russ) Lang of Maple Grove, Minnesota; grandchildren, Jeremy Allen of Burnsville, Minnesota, Andrew (Megan) Allen of Plymouth, Minnesota, Elizabeth (Tom) Fedoryk of Austin, Joseph McNally of Austin and Katherine (Christian) Morgan of Albert Lea, Minnesota; great-grandchildren, Ethan and Sophia Fedoryk and Connor Morgan; siblings, Lynne (Dr. James) Luby of Highland Park, Texas, Thomas (Jean) Mordaunt of Munster, Indiana, and Kristina (Vance) Mordaunt Ulsh of The Woodlands, Texas; nieces, nephews, cousins, and many other family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Harriet (Dunlap) Mordaunt; and her sister, Kathy Tardio.
