The lights are ready, the cameras are ready, now Riverside Arena just needs some action.

The Austin Bruins are drumming up some momentum after the 10th season in franchise history was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Austin Bruins co-owner Craig Patrick announced the team will feature updated lights and an expanded drink menu on game days for the 2020-2021 season. The lights will give fans a show before the game, during intermission and after goals are scored.

The new drink menu will feature more beer options and wine.

Patrick is especially excited about the new lights, noting that they would be hot enough to melt a hole in the ice if they were placed right up to the rink. Luckily for the Bruins and their fans, those lights will hang on the 32-foot ceiling.

“It will be like a rock show. These are the same type of lights that you’ll see at the Xcel Center,” Patrick said. “It will be a whole new look from years past. It’s going to be very exciting and very fun.”

The Bruins are moving forward with their offseason as usual, but there is a chance the season is delayed.

Patrick said the team is counting on participating in its usual offseason camps and he thinks the team will be ready to go whenever the season gets underway.

“It’s kind of a wait and see on everything, but the league is planning on moving full steam ahead,” Patrick said. “It’s about timing and seeing how things work. You have to be cautious. It’s unprecedented and we don’t want any of our fans to get sick.”

The last time the Bruins took the ice, they beat the Chippewa Steel 4-3 in Riverside Arena on March 7.

Austin finished last season with a record of 27-16-1-6 overall and were in third place in the NAHL Central Division when the season was called.

“It was very tough to end last season early, but we’re excited about moving forward and being safe at the same time. We think we’re going to be in a good position,” Patrick said. “We lost a ton of revenue by not having playoffs and it’s stressful for us, but we believe in Austin and we believe everything will bounce back. We’re working hard to make that happen.”
