Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

I’ve been holding off publishing the line-up for the 2020 Music @ the Mansion concert series because I didn’t know what we would be allowed to do with outdoor events.

I am now excited to announce the following schedule and changes to protocol for our annual series.

All of the concerts are free and will begin at 7 p.m. in the Peace Garden. In order to observe social distancing guidelines, space will be limited. Guests will need to bring their own chairs or a blanket as the HHH will not provide any this year.

Our gate attendants will help you find a spot so as to allow for the largest crowd possible, so consider arriving a little early to get a spot.  The events will be moved indoors per the restrictions of the government at that time.

• July 6 Patchouli

• July 13 Jeff Humphress

• July 20 JT Thompson

• July 27 Pete’s Pool Hall Band

• Aug. 3 Music & Theater in the style of William Shakespeare in collaboration with Matchbox Children’s Theatre

• Aug. 10 Lehto & Wright

• Aug. 17 Ripdoozers

• Aug. 31 Kellogg Duo

We will also be partnering with Matchbox Children’s Theatre this summer as the host site for their youth and teen summer camp performances. More details will be released soon regarding these performances, but the community will enjoy kids, theater, and beauty on Fridays, starting at 7 p.m. on July 24.

Summer of 2020 doesn’t look at all like we thought it would, but we are finding ways to bring people to history through the arts.

Newspapers from the early 1900s in Austin are filled with announcements of outdoor concert events.

On May 19, 1910, it was printed that:

“Concerts will be given on the streets every Wednesday evening during June, July, August and half of September.” On June 16th of that year the paper reported that “several hundred people attended the band concert given at Central park … The park was well lighted and made a desirable place to spend an evening listening to music.”

The Hormel Historic Home is pleased to have the ability to offer you a desirable activity in a season with so much turmoil.  We look forward to seeing you this summer and ask for your patience as we implement measures to keep everyone safe.
