We would like to commend all of those that took the time this weekend to step up and take advantage of the free COVID-19 testing at the Mower County Fairgrounds.
As you’ve probably read by now, there were 2,059 tests conducted across the two days, meeting goals set by county health officials.
It has been proven scientifically that testing is key to getting on top of the COVID-19 pandemic and the fact that people took advantage of this opportunity proved people are willing to do what’s needed to maintain both their health and the health of those around us.
It’s a scary time in Mower, no doubt. In recent weeks, numbers of COVID-19 have risen dramatically, which was the reason for this weekend’s testing in the first place. These cases are made even more critical as we near the 1,000 mark. We are now over 800 cases in the county and after this weekend’s testing, it is possible we will see even more.
However, the more tests we have, the easier health officials will be able to properly contact trace and make a stronger stand against the further spread of the coronavirus in Mower County.
But we would also like to thank and commend those that made this testing possible. The process of testing so many people in a relatively short span of time is testament of what people are willing to do in the face of this.
It was a smooth process that had people in and out with very little hassle.
We strongly urge that if the state and county hold another testing opportunity, that people take advantage and get tested. It’s about you, family and neighbors and what we can do to keep them all healthy.
