The pitching duo of John Kirby and Alex Ciola was successfully selective as they led the Austin Greyhounds to a 5-2 win over the Owatonna Aces in Marcusen Park Wednesday.
Kirby walked six and allowed just one hit in six innings to snag the win and Alex Ciola scattered one hit and two walks in three scoreless innings to earn the save. Both pitchers were able to keep the Aces bats quiet throughout the night.

“We really did a good job of switching up off-speed and fast balls to keep them on their toes,” Ciola said. “You can’t get too predictable when you’re pitching. We walked a few more than we should have, but we pitched safely and we let the defense play.”
The Aces plated a run off an error and had runners on first and second with two outs in the top of the sixth inning when John Kirby came up with a big strikeout to escape the jam
The Hounds (2-2 overall) took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning when Jack Dankert singled in a run and Daniel Bollingberg had a sacrifice fly. The Hounds added three more in the fourth when Dankert and Bollingberg each knocked in another run and Alex Ciola converted an RBI groundout.
“It was good to work off that lead. Of course we’d like to score more, but on this kind of day it was enough,” Ciola said.
