Joyce Schmit Lerum, age 74, of Austin, died Wednesday, June 3, 2020 at her home.

Joyce was born October 24, 1945 in Austin, Minnesota to Lawrence and Dorothy (Bisbee) Schmit. She was united in marriage to Craig E. Lerum.

Joyce was such a joy to everyone she ever came in contact with. She spread her love and her infectious smile. Joyce was cherished by so many.

Joyce and Craig spent their life together in Minnesota, California, North Carolina, and South Dakota.

Survivors include her husband, Craig Lerum; son, Derek (Marlys) Lerum; daughters, Kari Peterson, Korin (Andy) Ball; eight loving grandchildren; very special nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Dorothy Schmit; twin sister, JoAnn Greenlee Rhine; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bud and Lucille Lerum; son-in-law, Rich Peterson.

A Memorial Service will be held 11 am on Saturday, July 11, 2020 at Mayer Funeral Home with Dick Truman officiating. Friends may call one hour before the service at Mayer Funeral Home. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery in Albert Lea followed by a reception at the Hayward Community Hall.
