Verona Butenhoff, age 80, of Austin, MN passed away on Monday, July 6th. Verona was born in Shafter, CA to Alvert and Lois (Huenemann) Streyle. She was baptized at the Reformed Congregation in Shafter, CA and confirmed at the Peace Reformed Church in Garner, IA. She was the 5th of eight children. Her family moved to Iowa in 1940 where she started school in Hayfield, IA. After attending several schools in Iowa, they finally settled in Alden, MN where she then graduated from Alden High School. She met and married Larry Thomas Butenhoff on April 8th, 1960. They had two children, Kris and Todd.
Verona worked at several banks, a plumbing company, and she kept books for many years at her husband’s business, Larry’s Sales and Service. After working the next 25 years as the Alden School secretary, she retired. She and her husband moved to Austin, MN in 1997 where she enjoyed staying busy with volunteer work. The loves of her life were her husband, Larry, her children, and grandchildren.
Survivors include her loving husband, Larry, of 60 years; children Kris (Perry) Mayer and Todd (Holly) Butenhoff; grandchildren BriAnn (Kelvin) Minnig, Cassidy Mayer, Tyler Butenhoff, and Cody Butenhoff. Siblings include Jean Streyle, Phil Hunt, Marie (Waldemar) Sundet, Dorothy (Orville) Simonsen, Hildegard Radke, Elizabeth (Kent) Urness, Ronald (Betsy) Streyle, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her siblings Bob Streyle, Evelyn Hunt, and brother-in-law Jeff Radke.
Private family services will be held at Clasen-Jordan Funeral Home. Burial will be at Alden Cemetery. Verona had requested for memorials to be given to the Arthritis Foundation in lieu of flowers.
