Karen Hough, 74

Karen Hough, 74, passed away on November 21, 2023 after a short battle with cancer which she accepted with dignity, grace, and strength. Thankful for the gift of time, Karen filled her last season with the people and events that were the most meaningful to her.

Karen Betsy (Myhre) Hough was born on January 25, 1949 in Minneapolis, MN. She was adopted on March 25, 1949 by Elton and Elna Myhre. She grew up in Grand Meadow and graduated from high school in 1967. She married Patrick Hough in 1974 and they were later divorced.

She raised her daughter Mara as a single mom and cherished their time together. Karen graduated from Winona State with a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in community counseling. She was a clinical supervisor at Gerard Academy in Austin for 19 years. Karen found great joy in helping youth find their way through hard times and building relationships with her clients and coworkers. She enjoyed traveling, music, cheering for the Vikings, and spending time with her friends whom she considered family.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her precious daughter Mara Hough (Ted Lange) of Stewartville, brother Einar (Margene) Myhre of Grand Meadow, nephews and a niece, and dear friends. In place of flowers, donations may be sent to Grand Meadow Fire Department or Ambulance Service: Box 38, Grand Meadow, MN 55936.

A celebration of life has been held to celebrate this amazing lady. Karen will live on in the lives she has touched.
