Robert “Bob” Daigneau Bulger, age 82, of St. Peter, MN, formerly of Austin, MN, died peacefully on November 27, 2023, in St. Peter. Bob was born May 15, 1941, in Dallas, TX to Robert L. and Margaret Bulger and spent most of his life in Austin.
He married the love of his life, Marilee McMichael, on March 28, 1964, and together they had two children, Robert Jr. and Becky. The pride and joy of Bob’s life was his family. He would say, “I wouldn’t give you a nickel for another one, but I wouldn’t take a million for either of mine.” Sometimes we doubted that.
He graduated from Austin High School and went to college at Austin Community College, the University of Arizona and Mankato State University before starting a long public-school teaching and coaching career in Coolidge, AZ, Elkton, MN and after that, Southland High School, helping the Rebels win the 1983 football state championship. He loved all sports, especially basketball, football, golf and fishing with his dad on Potato Lake in Park Rapids. He enjoyed classical music and the English language and up until his final day, was still correcting the grammar of his family and the nurses. He was a talented musician and performed with the band The Highlights in high school.
Bob leaves behind his loving wife, Marilee, his children, Bob, Jr. and Becky (Troy) Anderson, grandchildren, Bob (Jocelyn) and Emily Bulger, sister and brother-in-law, Candy and Doug Van Thorre, sister-in-law, Sandy Goblirsch, brother and sister-in-law, John and Christine McMichael, many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, father and mother-in law, John and Verna McMichael, sister, Peggi Brimacomb, brother, Ralph and brothers-in-law, Dick Brimacomb and Bill Goblirsch.
The family wishes to thank Benedictine Assisted Living and Benedictine Nursing Home in St. Peter and Mayo Hospice Services for their wonderful care.
