Rose Marie Wendt, 76

The funeral service for Rose Marie Wendt, 76, a longtime Stewartville, MN resident will be at 2:00 PM on Wednesday (December 27, 2023) at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Pleasant Valley Township with Rev. Marc Frieberg Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Wendt died suddenly on Saturday (December 16, 2023) of natural causes surrounded by her loving family at Mayo Clinic Rochester – St. Marys Campus.

Rose Marie Johnson was born on July 30th, 1947 in Austin, MN to Lowell and Jeanette (Thompson) Johnson. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin where she grew up attended school and graduated from Austin HS in 1965. Rose was employed at Midtown Cafe in Austin and the Kahler Hotel and Michaels Restaurant both in Rochester. Rose met her loving husband Dennis Wendt and they were married on November 15, 1986. Following their marriage the couple lived in Stewartville where they raised their 2 adopted children – Shawn and Annie and have continued to make their home. Rose was a longtime employee with Stewartville School District 534 in the Central School cafeteria and as a child care aide in the morning and afternoon at Tiger Time for 23 years. She loved helping the kids, watching them grow and they loved her. She always enjoyed seeing them later on in their lives. She retired on August 7, 2015. Dennis was a longtime employee at IBM in Rochester until his retirement and farmed the Wendt Family Farm with his brothers – Chuck and David.

Rose was a past member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Austin and was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Pleasant Valley Township, MN where she taught Sunday School and volunteered with its Ladies Aid activities. She was a member of the Rochester Cake Club where she learned different baking and icing techniques. She enjoyed doing crafts and painting, word search and writing her poems. Rose enjoyed visiting with friends and loved time spent with Dennis and all of her family.

Rose is survived by her husband Dennis: son – Shawn Wendt and daughter Annie Avilas both of Minneapolis, MN; nieces and nephews – Penny (Tom) Thompson of Albert Lea, MN; Jonathon Johnson of Warren, MI; Matthew Johnson and Nathaniel (Kathy) Johnson of Owatonna, MN: brother-in-law – Chuck Wendt of rural Stewartville his daughters – Missy and Lynette and son – Jason and families; Sister-in-laws – Jean McClellan of West Salem, WI and Cheralyn (Dennis) Runkle of Racine, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters – Lila Davis, Lola Mae Johnson, Gloria Johnson, Patricia Dockham, her brother – Kenneth Johnson, sister-in-law – Lucille Johnson and brother-in-laws – Kenneth Dockham and David Wendt.

A time of visitation for family and friends will take place from 4 to 7:00 PM on Tuesday (December 26, 2023) at Griffin-Gray FH in Stewartville and 1 hr. prior to the service at the church on Wednesday afternoon.
