Eleanor E. Johnson, age 89, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at Mayo Clinic Hospital Austin. Eleanor Evelyn Sheely was born on February 27, 1934, in Guckeen, Minnesota, to Arthur and Peryl (Davis) Sheely. She attended school in Iowa and then Elkton, Minnesota, graduating with the class of 1952. Eleanor married Harold Johnson at Dexter United Methodist Church on July 26, 1953. The couple was together over 20 years, raising five children. At the age of 40, Eleanor began her LPN training at Austin Vo-Tech, graduating in 1976. She began her nursing career at St. Olaf Hospital, spent four years in Rochester at Methodist Hospital, and then transferred to Burr Oak Manor until her retirement in 1996. Eleanor was a past member of Crane Chapel and Brownsdale United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school, was a MYF leader, and sung in the choir. She enjoyed her flowers, gardening, canning, and square dancing. Eleanor also loved to sew, craft, and embroider. She loved her family dearly and will be so missed.
Eleanor is survived by her children, Cheryl (Jim) Wolfgram of Brooklyn Park, Jim (Lynn) Johnson of Adams, Julie (Loren) Theel of Eyota, and Curtis Johnson of Rochester; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Larry Sheely. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Peryl Sheely; daughter, Diana Johnson; two sisters; and three brothers.
The funeral service for Eleanor will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 12, 2024, at Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin. The visitation will take place from 9:00-11:00 a.m. prior to the service. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Brownsdale. Memorials are preferred to donor’s choice.
