If you’ve been to any workout facility in the past week, you’ve seen it.
Large crowds, eager faces and new members are flooding to gyms. Meanwhile, fast food joints and junk food companies are probably seeing a temporary stall in business.
It is New Year’s resolution time again and most people have one and usually it involves living a healthier lifestyle. If you’re looking to keep your new year’s resolution, keep in mind it’s been said that it takes six weeks to form a habit. Once you reach that point, it should be smooth sailing, or at least harder to break the routine.
In the past I’ve made getting healthier my New Year’s routine as well, and this year is no different. But this year I went a little deeper with the notion and came up with a new concept. How about we let go of complacency and ask ourselves a question on New Year’s.
My question for this year would be why it is so hard to change. We live on a small rock that is spinning and flying at unimaginable speeds through an empty, vast arena that is littered with large flaming objects, other flying rocks and comets that are more dangerous than any weapon that has ever been created.
When you think about it, the universe is highly unpredictable, yet we crave for routine in our daily lives.
We want to get up, go through our morning routine, go to work, and get home for a nice evening with our loved ones. If anything gets in the way of that plan, we often become irritated or upset.
It’s human nature to want to control things so they become predictable, but the fact of the matter is that there is no way to control everything. The sooner we accept that things are constantly changing, the more we can accept it.
I’m working on accepting the changes I have seen in my lifetime and I’ll continue to try to take everything that comes with a positive attitude and do the best I can with it.
I guess I’ve found a resolution, after all.
With that, I wish the best of luck to all of you in your resolutions this year!
