Irene Duren, 101

Irene Duren, age 101, of Austin, passed away on Friday, January 19, 2024 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Home.

Irene was born on January 25, 1922 in Chicago, Illinois to Paul and Valeria (Romanski) Talaga. She went to school in Franklin Park, Illinois.

Irene married Eligius R. Duren on January 29, 1946 in La Mesa, California. The couple moved to Stacyville, Iowa and in 1949, moved to Austin, Minnesota and built their own home. In 1963, Irene and Eligius started the Austin Sewing Center and together they owned and operated the business until the summer of 2016.

Irene was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Eligius Duren; daughter, Sharon Jacobson; parents; siblings, Walter Talaga, Theodore Talaga, Casey Talaga, Leo Tallen, Henry Talaga.

Survivors include her daughter, Barbara (Steven) James, Austin, Minnesota; son-in-law, Charles Jacobson, Cottage Grove, Minnesota; three grandchildren, Samuel (Traci) Jacobson, Cannon Falls, Minnesota, Ryan James, Waconia, Minnesota, Nicholas James, Eagan, Minnesota; seven great grandchildren; sister, Helen Harvey, Ocala, Florida; nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 am on Friday, January 26, 2024 at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father Thien Nguyen officiating. Visitation will be held from 9 am until the time of the mass at the church on Friday. Interment will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
