The No. 10 seeded Riverland Community College men’s basketball team had its run for its first ever national title come to an end when it lost to the No. 3 seeded Herkimer Generals (29-2 overall) 72-69 in an NJCAA Division III quarterfinal in Herkimer, New York Friday.

RCC trailed 70-57 with 3:52 left in the game and the Blue Devils got as close as 70-69 after DeWayne Thompson made two free throws with 18 seconds left.

However, Thompson missed a game-tying three-pointer with three seconds left.

Savier McCall had 19 points for RCC (31-4 overall).

RCC will now play Brookdale in the third place game at 1 p.m. Saturday.
