Dr. Richard Overby, 90

Dr. Richard Overby, 90, of Austin, Minnesota, formerly of Kenyon, Minnesota, passed away Wednesday, February 28, 2024 at St. Mark’s Senior Living.

Nathan Richard Overby was born April 28, 1933 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to John and Bernice (Nye) Overby. He graduated from Mound High School in 1951. After high school, he earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Augsburg College and graduated from the University of Minnesota Dental School in 1965. He served four years in the U.S. Navy. Rich married Ruth Pollestad in June 1957 in Hampden, North Dakota. Rich had a long career as a dentist serving the Kenyon, Minnesota area.

Rich was a member of First Lutheran Church in Kenyon, the Kenyon Lion’s Club and served as a volunteer fireman on the Kenyon Fire Department.

He enjoyed spending time sailing in the Gulf off the coast of Florida. He also loved to hunt and fish. He cherished the time spent with his family, especially his three granddaughters.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Ruth in 2001.

Rich is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Eric and Diamond Overby of, Austin, MN; granddaughters, Madison Overby of Boston, MA, Mara Overby of Salt Lake City, UT, and Hazel Overby of Austin, MN; brother, John (Irma) Overby of New Orleans, LA, and sister, Sue Swanson of New Orleans, LA.

A private family service will be held at a later date.
