Edward Solberg, 93

Edward Marcus Solberg, 93, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away Sunday, February 25, 2024 at Comforcare Good Samaritan Society in Austin.
Edward was born on February 23, 1931 in Minneapolis, Minnesota and was placed in the Owatonna Orphanage. He was adopted by Marcus and Martha (Schall) Solberg in August 1933. He joined the U.S. Army after graduating from Austin High School, but was released from the Army when his father died unexpectedly. On October 28, 1950, Edward married Isabelle Allard. He was called back to the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was stationed at Fort Rucker in Alabama. Ed worked at Zips Grocery Store, helped to build Neveln Elementary School and retired from Hormel after working there for 34 years.
In his spare time, Ed enjoyed bowling, playing fastpitch softball, and golf. He also loved to travel and go camping.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Mike Bell; great granddaughter, Naysha Arends; and sisters, Dolores Warren and Jean Tuttle.
Edward is survived by his wife: Isabelle Solberg, Austin, MN; children: Diane (Tom) Arends, Austin, MN, and Steve (Janelle) Solberg, Morris, IL; seven grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; sisters: Rose Marie Falken, Austin, MN and Shirley Mattson; nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 23rd at Holy Cross Lutheran Church with Reverend Gemechu Olana officiating. Visitation will be at the church on Saturday for one hour before the service. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery at a later date.
