In Loving Memory of Karen Bustad
Karen, a beloved mother, grandmother, and devoted advocate for both human and animal welfare, passed away tragically on October 28, 2023, following the footsteps of her dear parents Kenneth and Beverly Bustad, grandparents Ingvold and Augusta Bustad, John and Luverne Schuette, and many cherished aunts and uncles. She leaves behind a legacy of love and resilience, despite enduring the hardships of domestic abuse.
Karen found immense joy in the company of her children, Carissa Crews, Amanda Crews (Trevor Willert), Brandon Crews, and Emily Crews (Spencer Busho), and was overjoyed to be a grandmother to Hattie and Beckett Busho. Her unwavering love and dedication to her family were the guiding lights in her life.
Karen is also survived by her sister Hope Lageson (Ben Lageson) and brother Matt Bustad (Sandy Bustad), along with nieces and nephew, who will forever cherish her memory and carry on her legacy of compassion.
In addition to her family, Karen had a deep affection for animals, especially her loyal canine companions. She believed in the importance of protecting the innocent and vulnerable, both human and animal alike.
Karen’s infectious laugh will be greatly missed by all who knew her. It was a source of joy and comfort, brightening even the darkest of days.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests monetary donations that can be made in her memory to support local animal shelters and domestic victim support charities, reflecting Karen’s deep compassion and commitment to helping those in need.
A Celebration of Life will be held on April 6, 2024, at the Crane Community Chapel in Austin, MN. Visitation will begin at 10 am, followed by a service at 11 am, and lunch at 12 pm. Burial services will take place after lunch at Oakwood Cemetery in Austin, starting at 1:30 pm.
Though she is no longer with us, Karen’s legacy of love, strength, and compassion will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her.
May she rest in peace, reunited with her loved ones who have gone before her, and may her memory bring comfort to those who mourn her loss.
