In honor of Women’s History month each year, Austin’s American Association of University Women (AAUW) branch sponsors a Women’s History project contest for American History students at Austin High School.
The winners of this contest are usually honored and presented with a cash award at an all-school assembly. This year’s assembly had to be canceled because of the March 25 snowstorm, making it impossible for our speaker to arrive.
Instead, awards were presented by teacher Dennis Schwab in his classroom.
The 2024 winners were:
First place (three-way tie):
• Meicy Liu -“History of the Equal Rights Amendment”
• Claudia McDonald and Addi Hughes — “ Women in the 1940s”
• Clarys Clinefelter, Oli Loverink and Emma Stanley — “Barbie & the Barbie Movie”
Second place (two-way tie):
Neh Meh — “Women’s Role in Karenni Society”
Chelsea Collins, Isaiah Cabeen and Aaditya Sah — “ Women in the 1960s”
